Music to my ears

This weekend I went to a Women's Conference/Retreat with 10 women from our church Grace Community Church (www.graceunioncity.com) I had a fabulous time. This was my first and will not be last woman's retreat. I walked away learning soooo much from this conference/retreat. But what I want to point out on this blog is the songs we sang. I LOVE music, and always have since a child. But the older I get I've learned to actually read the lyrics to a song. I was try to figure out the meaning of the song. So I thought I would share with you the lyrics to a couple songs.
JESUS, THANK YOU

(Pat Sczebel)

The mystery of the cross I cannot comprehend

The agonies of Calvary

You the perfect holy One crushed Your Son

Drank the bitter cup reserved for me

CHORUS Your blood has washed away my sin

Jesus, thank you

The Father's wrath completely satisfied

Jesus, thank you

Once Your enemy now seated at Your table

Jesus, thank you

By Your perfect sacrifice I've been brought near

Your enemy You've made Your friend

Pouring out the riches of Your glorious grace

Your mercy and Your kindness know no end

(repeat chorus)

Bridge: Lover of my soul, I want to live for You!

The first time we sang this song, I wasn't quiet paying attention to the Actual Words to the song, till the next day, and we sang it again. Then I just loved it because its so true! Another song we sang I like too and I've heard this one before but every time I hear it I could sing it over and over..

Arise, My Soul, Arise

(C. Wesley)

Arise, my soul, arise,

shake off your guilty fears;

The bleeding sacrifice,

in my behalf appears;

Before the throne my Surety stands,

Before the throne my Surety stands,

My name is written on His hands.

CHORUS Arise (arise), arise (arise), arise

Arise, my soul, arise

Arise (arise), arise (arise), arise

Arise, my soul, arise

Shake off your guilty fears and rise

He ever lives above, for me to intercede;

His all redeeming love,

His precious blood, to plead;

His blood atoned for every race,

His blood atoned for every race,

And sprinkles now the throne of grace.

(Repeat chorus)

Five bleeding wounds He bears;

received on Calvary;

They pour effectual prayers;

they strongly plead for me:

"Forgive him, O forgive," they cry,

"Forgive him, O forgive," they cry,

Nor let that ransomed sinner die!

(repeat chorus)

The Father hears Him pray,

His dear anointed One,

He cannot turn away,

the presence of His Son;

The Spirit answers to the blood,

The Spirit answers to the blood

And tells me I am born of God

(repeat chorus)

My God is reconciled;

His pardoning voice I hear;

He owns me for His child;

I can no longer fear

With confidence I now draw nigh;

With confidence I now draw nigh,

And "Father, Abba, Father," cry.

(repeat chorus)

No I didn't go to the conference/retreat to just sing songs. lol But that was just one of Many that I enjoyed during the retreat/conference. But all that will have to be another blog. : )

  1. "Arise my Soul Arise" is in the Trinity Hymnal. Should we do it one Sunday?

    The other is not. Does it sound good? Is it worth getting the sheet music for?
